Progressives are an inquiring, intelligent and open-minded lot. Let’s share the best and little-known resources with each other.
Helena Cobban and Globalities https://globalities.org/about-globalities/
I first met Helena in Washington, DC on a book tour in 2014. She had recently published a book Gaza Writes Back and invited several of the Palestinian authors to visit the U.S. I lived and worked in Gaza for nine months (2012-2013). Joining the book tour, I took the opportunity to introduce Refaat Alareer to Congresswoman Michelle Lujan-Grisham. My goal was to humanize Israel’s occupation for MLG. Four months later, Refaat’s brother was killed by an Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip.

I’ve continued to stay in touch with Helena and these Palestinian writers. I highly recommend her latest article (published February 24, 2023) entitled What shape of a world do we want to build? where she reframes the bipolar fight between the West and Russia into a multipolar world described by Jeffrey Sachs, the Chinese government in its new “Global Security Initiative” paper, and numerous others from (principally) the Global South have been calling for. I believe Helena’s perspective is one that every progressive needs to understand.
