According to Carbon Brief, if global CO2 emissions continue at current levels, the world has less than five years before the world’s remaining carbon budget runs out and the dangerous and irreversible 1.5 degree Celsius threshold is breached. The statement is now open for individual public sign-on through the launch of the #CeasefireNOW petition which aims to amplify a global call for an immediate ceasefire that would protect and save lives. The aim is to mobilize 2.2 million people from around the world, the same as the population of Palestinians living in Gaza, to sign the petition calling on all world leaders, the UN Security Council, and actors on the ground to act now to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.
