DETENTION, IMPRISONMENT AND ABUSE OF PALESTINIAN CHILDREN
Since 2002, Israel has prosecuted over 12,000 children in military courts that “lack fundamental fair trial rights.”* Hundreds of children are detained right now. Israel is the only country in the world that systematically forces children into military detention and military courts. Detained children suffer “widespread, systematic, and Institutionalized [abuse] throughout the process.”**
The Israeli military uses torture, inhumane, or degrading treatment; physical violence or psychological abuse; incommunicado detention; indefinite administrative detention; solitary confinement; denial of parental or legal access during interrogations; and force or coercion to obtain confessions in Hebrew, a language the children do not understand.
