PDACNM NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 22, 2018- NOW IS THE TIME

IT’S NOW OR NEVER TO GET TOUGH ON THE NRA

I believe that the tragedy at Margery Stoneman Douglas High was the catalyst for the change that has been needed for so long.  It’s time to take down the deadly influence of the NRA and the weapons manufacturers.   Individuals and groups of people,  countrywide and not always progressive, are asking that this be a single issue focus in the 2018 elections.  I have never been interested in supporting single issue groups but given the very real and daily threat to the lives of our children, I will make it my single issue vote just this once. Focusing on a single issue is how the NRA has become so powerful.

While I believe the largest peril threatening the largest number of people is climate change, the fact that children and their families are in imminent danger of senseless slaughter and the resulting trauma and fear that hover constantly over our lives,  gun regulation and safety take precedence over everything else right now.  We have an opportunity to weaken, maybe even eliminate the monstrous NRA stranglehold on our liberties and the elected officials who are culpable in the violence. I hope you will join me in pledging to tell those in power that they no longer have our votes if they have accepted money from the NRA and refuse to return it.  Furthermore, we demand that  they pledge never to take gun lobby blood money again and instead take bold steps now to pass sensible gun safety laws.
